I've been lax on my blogging this week, my apologies. I generally work to get a post up every day, and hope that I'll be able to do even better than that soon.
So, in my return to blogging, I'd like to confess that I'm a big nerd because I actually know (and will be TiVoing) the first episode of Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica. Yes, I enjoy good sci-fi. I am a nerd.
That said, Mary and I have been watching The Wire on DVD. Many many people have praised it as "the best show on television" and we've finally gotten around to watching it. It's dang good. We're just a few episodes from the end of Season 1.
Starting in June, my summer-long No TV pledge begins. No TV save for DVDs and possibly Mariners games. Some people give me flak for allowing DVDs during a no-TV pledge, but I maintain that watching a DVD is by definition more active than just watching TV, even if I'm watching DVDs of TV shows. Even with a TiVo (perhaps especially with a TiVo) you can just keep watching and keep watching. But DVDs have a definite end. Last summer when I stopped watching TV, I did great: no Simpsons, South Park, or Seinfeld reruns, no Colbert or Stewart ... even those which I love, I found that I was totally OK living without.
That said, I may have to make an allowance for Battlestar Galactica since I don't know what their season is going to look like over the summer. I also am going to greatly enjoy some good TV before summer begins: The Office starts up again next week, Lost gets going at the end of the month, there are new South Parks coming out ... it's going to be a good couple months.
