So, what is Obama to do now? Did you see the negatives from the exit polls? Something like 15% Hillary supporters vowed to vote for McCain against Obama in a general election. The wheels are coming off.
I think we're a long ways from wheels coming off. The best description I've heard of tonight is that it was a missed opportunity. He hasn't delivered the match point as he wanted in Ohio and wanted tonight.
I'm also not sure the Hillary supporters defecting to McCain isn't necessarily telling. This is from the Marc Ambinder blog:
More than 60% of Clinton voters say they wouldn't be happy if Obama were the nominee; about half of Obama voters say the same. 25% of Clinton supporters say they'd vote for McCain in the general election; 17% of Obama supporters say they'd vote for McCain in the general election.
Both sides are getting increasingly unhappy with the other option.
Agreed. It's equally telling for both sides. I'm certainly not calling November, but this is just killing the Democrats.
I think it is more than just a missed opportunity. Voters aren't stupid-- even though it's a primary, people are going to vote for the presumptive nominee in less they have very strong convictions for one candidate over the other, and I doubt that is the majority. Simply put, even half of the Democratic base thinks that Obama has serious issues regarding electability.
Losing PA doesn't mean the wheels are falling off. But the inability to put it away, with all of the money he's poured into the state, is very troubling.
