Book Report

I finished "Casino Royale," the first Bond novel, a couple nights ago. After reading "Devil May Care," the newest addition to the series by Sebastian Faulks "writing as Ian Fleming" I decided to go back to the start.

It's a fun read, though I've enjoyed some of the other Bond novels much better.

I'm now starting "Mornings on Horseback," by David McCullough. He wrote it in 1980, before he won his two Pulitzer Prizes. It's about the life of Theodore Roosevelt's formative years. So far it's been a little slow because it hasn't actually gotten to Theodore yet and is mainly focusing on his parents. After finishing the HBO "John Adams" mini-series I wanted to read more by McCullough but not John Adams yet. I've already ready 1776 so this book seemed like a good choice.

As to the John Adams mini-series, I thought that disc 2 was very very good. The early stuff and the late stuff was not as interesting, I thought.

Back to books, though. At the Iconoclast Bookstore here in Sun Valley I bought "Yes Man" by David Wallace. This was recommended to me last week and the concept intrigued me. It's written by a guy who for a few months said "Yes" to everything. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Incidentally, a movie version of the book starring Jim Carrey is coming out this winter.
